Welcome!  My name is Michael Tobias. Like all of us, I've been many different things at different times: a toddler crawling through the bushes picking up sticks 'n snakes; a school boy day dreaming of catching endzone passes or composing songs in my head; a bleach headed skater kid working on a kickflip; a restless, idealistic wanderer looking for truth; a steadfast, rock steady, firmly planted family man.

Through all the changes one thing has been constant: I've played my guitar.  Never stopped.  Like all artists, I've gone through quiet spells.  Eventually those times pass and I can't resit the strings' call.  I pick them up again and, with renewed fascination, find new things: hidden melodies, inversions, techniques, tones, sound colors, emotions, adrenaline, peace, miracles, God. 

The sunset photo above was taken at He'eia Bay on the island of Hawai'i.  It is a very special place that I walk to from my home to collect my self when I'm off balance.  If the surf is calm, I go for a swim or sometimes bring my strings along and create music.  Plein Air Guitar Volume 1 is my most recent recorded work and the song featured in the music player below is the last track. The EP contains songs that were improvised in the moment.  I wouldn't think, I would react.  The Wind.  Waves.  Seabird.  Quiet.  Light Changes.  Big Foamy Wave.  Rocks rolling back in the Undertow. Parakeets.  Darker Now.  Orange Gold Green…  Play the Strings.
